NEW EDITION DAY
On August 30th, Boston came alive in celebration of one of its most iconic musical legacies — New Edition Day. This special honor, officially recognized by the City of Boston, pays tribute to the legendary R&B group that first rose to fame out of Roxbury’s Orchard Park projects.
Declared by Mayor Michelle Wu in 2025, New Edition Day acknowledges the group’s profound cultural impact and enduring legacy. As part of the celebration, Dearborn Street was renamed “New Edition Way,” creating a lasting landmark in the neighborhood where it all began.
The day was filled with energy and pride, featuring a festive block party, music, dancing, and community events that brought generations together. Fans, families, and residents gathered to honor the group whose sound defined an era and continues to inspire new artists today.
For Bentley Sweven, being part of the celebration was not only about honoring the music, but also about recognizing the resilience, creativity, and unity that New Edition represents for Boston. The group’s journey — from local talent shows to global stardom — embodies the spirit of the city and its deep cultural roots.
